看世界：衣着与信仰

远古时代是神的时代，信仰无处不在。左腋被远古先民视为生死之穴，由左腋崇拜而来的“尚左”是原始宗教的经典。人们不单以手与手势来表达和传播这一信仰，衣着也是重要的手段。
《史记·赵世家》云：翦发文身，错臂左衽，瓯越之民也。《尚书·周书·毕命》记载：“四夷左衽”。周人将中原之外统称四夷，表明在周代，“右衽”流行的范围仅中原地区，而周边广大地区普遍流行“左衽”。
既然四夷皆左衽，有必要再认识“左衽”。
何为“左衽”？ 一般认为衣服前襟斜向左侧为“左衽”，反之则为“右衽”。
不过，“衽”有两种解释，一为“襟”，一为“袖子”，两种解释截然不同。如果作“袖子”讲，“左衽”即左袖，前襟斜向右侧，反之则为“右衽”。
世界考古资料表明，东亚文明、美洲文明、大洋洲文明、古埃及文明、苏美尔文明、印度文明、古希腊文明都曾经流行过“左衽”。

“左衽”是信仰的产物，其宗教影响力至今仍存。这一着装至迟在一万多年东亚先民东渡美洲之前便已产生，否则无法解释长期与世隔绝的美洲和大洋洲为什么也有“左衽”。世界文明史是以文字作标志的，由此而来的文明起源论是值得怀疑的。
